[Open Call] Announcing the ADVENTURE Calendar!
Did you grow up with Advent Calendars? Although this format is generally reserved for Christmas traditions, here at Bait/Switch we are rather taken by the possibilities it presents. After all, an advent calendar is usually a 2D drawing, with windows in it that can be opened (making it 3D), and sometimes candy is also involved. Since only one window is opened each day of December, altogether that makes it a piece of work that defies time, space and sensory experience, which is what Bait/Switch is all about.
Announcing the ADVENTURE Calendar!
We’re going to produce a digital advent calendar this December. This has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas, which is why we’re calling it an ADVENTURE Calendar.
The ADVENTURE Calendar will be presented day by day. It will be serialized in daily emails, and will also be accessible on a special section of the Bait/Switch website.
How will it work?
When you sign up to produce work for the ADVENTURE Calendar, we will send you a prompt. You will have two weeks or one month to create a response (depending on your medium) based on the prompt. Once you send the finished work back, we will do a quick interview. Your work will be presented in December on the date indicated by the prompt.
What will the prompts be?
Since this is about calendars, the prompts are all numbers. We have never given out a number as a prompt before, so we really have absolutely no idea what kind of work this will generate. When you sign up to participate, a number will be randomly drawn from a hat and sent to you. Numbers have all sorts of meanings. As with all Bait/Switch prompts, what you see in the number that is drawn for you will be completely personal, and we encourage you to really dig into it.
Can I use something I’ve already made?
Please don’t. Remember that Bait/Switch is all about making new work. It is about challenging ourselves as creative people and getting out of our comfort zones.
How can I participate?
Sign up below! Everyone is invited to participate! Are you itching for an assignment, but would rather make something for our quarterly publication? Go here instead.
