Contribute to the exquisite book

Calling all visual artists! We have an assignment for you: we want you to make a work of art to appear in the Exquisite Book, our collaborative online flip-flap book.

The compelling thing about this format is the interchangeability. You can make a mash-up of any part of any of the artworks in the book just by clicking. It’s the ‘choose your own adventure’ of exquisite corpse drawings.

To participate, follow the instructions below. Aside from the basic ideas that artwork must line up with the template and have a white background for continuity, there are no other requirements for this artwork – it can be any kind of media, digital or not. We would love to see a wide range of media represented! Drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, fashion… go crazy! As long as it fits the template, we’ll be PSYCHED to see it.

To participate:

1. You’ll need to follow a template in order to participate in this project. The glory of the flip-flap concept is the fact that no matter what, the artwork lines up.  You can get a template by downloading one of the image files below in the format of your choice.

2. The artwork should stay within the arrows indicated on the two horizontal dotted lines. This is the main challenge of this assignment – you’ve got this!

3. Leave the background white or transparent- this will increase the continuity between artworks and make for a more interesting whole.

4. Don’t take this seriously- just jump in and make something weird.

5. Give your drawing a modular sectional title. We ask that you follow the following format for your title:  “Adjective/Adjective/Noun”. 

6. Email your finished artwork and title to book@baitswit.ch

7. Artwork will be accepted on a rolling basis, and added to the book quarterly. We will let you know when your work goes live. We reserve the right to not publish anything deemed offensive.
